Obama Reiterates Support for Fair Elections
A couple of weeks ago, the Kennebec Journal, Maine's oldest newspaper, published a story highlighting the Fair Elections Now Act and Maine's important role as a successful model for the rest of the nation.
A great piece, but unless you're an avid reader of the Kennebec Journal, you may have missed this gem from Representative Chellie Pingree, an original co-sponsor of the bill:
"I spoke to President Obama last night about this and he said if it made it to his desk, he would sign it," Pingree said in a phone interview Friday.

This doesn't come as a huge surprise, given that Obama was an original co-sponsor of the bill while he was in the Senate and talked it up on the campaign trail. But it's nice to know it's still on his radar, and that like two thirds of Americans across party lines, he supports public financing of qualified congressional candidates.
Now, it's true that we have a few more immediate crises the President needs to deal with. So it's on us to get this bill to his desk. Tell Congress today, in an email or on the phone, that we need to pass the Fair Elections Now Act.
